Julie L. Agris

Shepard Broad College of Law

Julie Agris is an Associate Professor of Law at the Shepard Broad College of Law, Nova Southeastern University. Her research focuses on legal and policy frameworks governing emerging technologies with a particular emphasis on the delivery of high quality of health care.  

Dr. Agris teaches courses on torts, health law, public health law, health policy, health care compliance, and bioethics. She is recognized for engaging health law classes and an interprofessional teaching style that integrates perspectives from law, medicine, health policy, diverse clinical disciplines, and healthcare leadership. A frequently invited guest lecturer on complex health law issues, she has received numerous honors and awards for her work and is an active contributor to her fields at local, national, and international levels.  

Before entering academia, Dr. Agris practiced law as a health care attorney at both the state and federal levels. She received a Special Act Award while serving as legal counsel to the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and her legal training included competitive internships at the White House, the Supreme Court (on behalf of CBS Evening News), and the US Department of Justice, Civil Division, Torts Branch. 

Supported by an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Doctoral Training Grant, Dr. Agris earned a PhD in Health Policy and Management from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University. She also earned an LLM in Health Law from the Health Law and Policy Institute at the University of Houston Law Center and a JD from the Washington College of Law, American University. She graduated as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, with high honors and high distinction, from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
