Nomfundo Mthembu

Mrs Nomfundo Mthembu is a National Research Foundation-funded researcher and academic specializing in Medical Law, Human Rights, and Healthcare Policy. She holds an LLB and LLM in Medical Law from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where she is currently pursuing a PhD in Medical Law. Her research focuses on reproductive health technologies, indigenous knowledge systems, and the rights of minority groups. Mrs Mthembu served as the principal investigator for a Competition Commission-funded project on health competition law and policy. She has presented her work at national and international conferences and contributes to legal scholarship through her roles as an external examiner and journal reviewer. At UKZN, she serves as the legal representative in the Proctor’s Office and as the Ethical Clearance Officer for the School of Law. She is also a member of the Research and Higher Degrees Committee. Her community engagement includes board memberships at the Hillcrest Advice Bureau and Bursary Fund and the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust. She is an active member of the Health Law and Ethics Research Interest Group and was recently a visiting lecturer at the University of Messina in Italy, where she expanded her international research collaborations.
