Sonia Suter

The George Washington University

Sonia M. Suter is the Kahan Family Research Professor of Law, the Henry St. George Tucker III Dean’s Research Professor of Law, the Founding Director of the Health Law Initiative, and the Co-Director of the Health Law and Policy Program at The George Washington University Law School. A former genetic counselor, she has published widely in law reviews, peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journals, and science journals. Her research addresses issues at the intersection of law, medicine, and bioethics, with a particular focus on reproductive rights and justice, emerging reproductive technologies, and ethical and legal issues in genetics. She is co-author of two leading textbooks in these fields: Reproductive Technologies and the Law and Genetics: Ethics, Law and Policy. In addition, she participates in national working groups and advisory boards and as a consultant to policymakers on issues in her field of expertise. She earned an MS and PhD candidacy in human genetics and a JD from the University of Michigan.
