Stephen Smith

Stephen W. Smith is a Reader in Medical Law and Ethics at Cardiff University in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. He has been at Cardiff University since September 2016 where he primarily teaches Healthcare Law and Ethics to both undergraduate law students and postgraduate students. He is the Director of the Legal Aspects of Medical Practice program as well as being the Director of the Centre for Health and Social Care Law. Prior to his role at Cardiff, Stephen was a Lecturer in Law at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Stephen has degrees from The University of Manchester (Ph.D.), Washington University is St Louis (J.D.), and Mercyhurst University (B.A. Psychology). Stephen has published widely on healthcare law and ethics in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the US including a book published with Cambridge University Press in 2012 entitled End-of-Life Decisions in Medical Care: Principles and Policies for Regulating the Dying Process. He is currently working on another monograph for Cambridge University Press on the role of conscience in healthcare decisions.
