Naoko Akimoto

Naoko Akimoto, LLM, Ph.D., is an associate professor at Rikkyo University, Tokyo, of Health Law and Comparative Law of Anglo-American Law and Japanese Law. She is currently doing research at the East Asian Legal Studies Program at Harvard Law School as a visiting scholar. Dr. Akimoto’s continuing academic interest has been in the legal response to scientific technologies, and she published a book investigating the legal systems of the United States (U.S.) and Japan surrounding pharmaceuticals, which are formed through the interaction of product liability law and administrative regulations. Her current research at Harvard Law School is to analyze and compare the legal foundation of so-called no-fault compensation schemes in different fields, including health, in the U.S., N.Z. and England. Dr. Akimoto is a member of the Council for Scientific Technology and Safety of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan. She is also serving as a member of the Committee on Further Advancement of Patient Safety of the Japan Medical Safety Research Organization.
